During halftime of this evening’s Elite 24 game, the 6’5″ Point Guard made his college announcement. It was believed by many that Mudiay was UK’s to lose up until the last few days–especially when he decided to announce prior to his scheduled Big Blue Madness visit. Somehow SMU’s hall of fame coach, Larry Brown, was able to convince Mudiay to be SMU’s highest rated recruit ever. Good luck to the young man, but I doubt anyone (except the 2-3 SMU basketball fans) will get to see him play until he reaches the NBA.
Just a few days prior to his announcement, Mudiay told reporters that Coach Cal said he was his #1 option for point guard for the 2014-2015 season. I’m not exactly sure what made him change his mind. He will now be close to home and SMU is a religious school. When asked what made him want to all of a sudden decide, Mudiay mentioned he prayed about it and felt it was the correct decision.
With Mudiay out of the picture for UK, Coach Cal will no doubt go much harder after both Tyus Jones and Tyler Ulis, both of which have been offered a scholarship to play for the cats. Go get ’em Cal!
