Kentucky Wildcats TV is back with more videos following last night’s game at Auburn. First up is Coach Cal addressing the media followed by media interviews with Andrew Harrison and Julius Randle. There are some funny/kinda crazy moments by Coach Cal in his video, so it’s definitely worth watching.
QUESTIONS TO COACH CAL:
This video cut out the first few questions, but there were some gems from Coach Cal that I’ll list below.
Cal mentioned that “James Young gave us nothing” and that Julius Randle needs to play like he did in the second half all the time.
He’s happy that they got the win even though they only shot 30% from the field.
He mentioned he took out guys because they were playing like they were going through the motions. He told everyone that he was going to play the guys that would fight. “If you’re not into this, you’re not playing.”
Cal wants the guys to drive to the lane instead of taking so many threes.
He once again mentions that “Our emotions are tied to our offense. I told them after the game–at some point if you want to be special, that’s gotta change.”
At this point in the video, the questions were left in it, so here’s what the media asked Cal:
Was that second half signs of those things, of valuing some of those things? Cal said he told the guys, “C’mon… It’s time! It’s time! Enough! I can’t say it anymore, I mean I’ve said it a thousand ways… Why am I saying it publicly? I want them to read it. Every once in a while I give Jerry [Tipton] good heroin to spread around [joke of course].”
Can you just talk about what you take away from Auburn’s performance tonight and how they hung in there against you guys?
Is this your Peter Parker Spider-Man collection [referring to Cal’s jacket]?
Coach, you guys were able to shut down K.T. Harrell pretty well tonight. Can you talk about that?
What’s the most frustrating thing with the way they played tonight, or do you feel like they did good?
QUESTIONS TO ANDREW HARRISON:
There was a stretch in the second half that might have been as good as you guys have been in a while defensively. Did you guys start to have maybe a little more focus their when no one’s shots were going down?
What does Cal say to you in a game like that? I think at one point you guys made like 4-27 shots. When it’s going like that offensive, what does he say to you guys?
You guys have been so efficient offensively. Did you almost, in a way, maybe need a game like this to remind you how valueable the defensive end is?
You guys hit 3 threes pretty early though. Can that sometimes be fools gold for what you guys are trying to do?
It wasn’t exactly clicking on all [cylinders]. In what way might this game help you prepare for the next one [on] Saturday?
QUESTIONS TO JULIUS RANDLE:
Why do you think it was ugly, Julius? What made it that way?
Julius, you guys really could not make a shot… There were long stretches where you couldn’t hit anything. You went 10 minutes without a… or well 7 minutes without a field goal. Were you getting good shots?
Julius, when you’re not making shots, how does that rub off on everything else you do?
Did you get to that point in the second half? It seemed like you were really aggressive rebounding the ball down the stretch.
Was that a message, sort of, in that timeout? Right when they take that lead, they call timeout and throw the ball right to you in the post…?
Where are you guys, heading into this huge game against Florida? I mean, obviously this wasn’t the “clicking” that you probably wanted to have going into that game…
