Kentucky Wildcats TV have posted their Florida pre-game videos. First up is Coach Cal’s press conference where he answers questions from the media. Following the video of Cal is another video that features player interviews with the media from Willie Cauley-Stein and James Young. After each video, you’ll find our rough transcript of the questions the media asked the coach and players.
QUESTIONS TO COACH CAL:
Cal, where is this team’s confidence at in its shot? James [Young] talked about a lot of the reason for the sturggle has been confidence with him.
James [Young] said you are looking for “unleashed offense.” What does that mean?
Cal, what lessons do you take from the first 30 minutes of that first game [against Florida] and from the last 10?
Did they hit a wall, at all, physically over the last few games? Is this team in the kind of shape you want it to be in?
Are there one or two areas that you have to do a good job to have a chance tomorrow?
Cal, when you talk about guys subbing themselves out, is that something your previous young players have been able to do or do a better job of…?
Who is assigned to watch Julius [Randle’s subbing situation]?
Can you see the difference in Julius when he gets that short break?
QUESTIONS TO WILLIE CAULEY-STEIN:
Last year you guys had some struggles and were not able to recover. Do you take anything away from learning to bounce back and this year respond positively?
I wonder if it might be good to be young and not know how difficult it is at Gainesville, and the crowd, and all that stuff that you can just sort of not be affected by it because you’re too young to factor all that in…
Willie, there’s been a lot of talk about Cal saying guys need to sub themselves out. You seem to do that a lot. What’s the balance between you all subbing yourselves out when you are tired and a coach, an assistant, whatever saying you need to come out of the game?
Is it a thing when you’re a young guy [subbing yourself out]–is it hard to do that because young guys want to be on the floor all the time? Is it hard to take yourself out of the game?
What do you take from the first game heading into this game at Florida?
QUESTIONS TO JAMES YOUNG:
Do you feel like going into this game that you guys have really nothing to lose? I mean, they’re playing at home, it’s their senior day, they’re trying to go for an undefeated season, that you guys can play kind of free because maybe people aren’t expecting you guys to win?
Your shooting the other night… We’re shots just not falling for you? Did you got back and look at the video? Anything off with your form, or anything like that? Or was it just one of those nights?
Is that a tendency when you miss a shot do you feel like you are falling back?
What’s been the focus in here in practice after the last game?
Coach keeps talking about just, you know, playing like you sometimes do when you guys get down and keeping that energy and doing it from the start.
Were you surprised you’re shooting 32% from three for the year?
I know the coach has been talking about and working with you on playing through contact on drives and so forth. How do you feel like you’re doing in that aspect of the game right now?
What are you thinking about as we’re getting kind of closer to the post season now with one game left in the regular season?
Does it get you excited when you start thinking about the post season?
