The great YouTube folks at Kentucky Wildcats TV have posted the pre-game videos for tomorrow’s game in Starkville, MS against Mississippi State. First up is Coach Cal’s press conference with the media, followed by Dominique Hawkins and Jarrod Polson taking and answering questions for the media. Under each video I’ve writte up a rough transcript of all the questions the media asked the coach and players.
QUESTIONS TO COACH CAL:
Cal, is there anything special about these games where you’re playing these teams for the second time this season?
The new NBA commissioner wants to change the rules to age 20. What are your thoughts on that?
Does that change the way you have to recruit at all [assuming the NBA changes the minimum age limit to 20]?
Why do you think coaches will be so mad [which was the answer by Cal to the previous question]?
Mississippi State has really been struggling offensively… and you would think with your defense, that’s a mismatch…?
Julius’ rebound numbers are down a little bit in SEC play. Is that just the way teams are defending him or what is that?
He [Julius Randle] got to the line a lot more in the last game, right?
Was there an adjustment there [with Julius getting to the line more]?
What’s your thoughts on the SEC so far and how it’s shaping up?
Does parity go through this league?[Somebody said (*Note I couldn’t make out the name)] that despite the losses on the road, they love playing on the road. It’s kind of that us against them mentality and everybody’s always hyped up, of course, when Kentucky comes to town. Is that the mentality you guys like to have when you travel?
John, there was a lot of comments the other night about your comments about over analyzing, opinions, etc. Is there anything in particular that made you make those comments? Because some people are speculating you didn’t like that you dropped from 11th to 18th in the polls. Was it that, or was it something else…?
Do you really think you’re the most over analyzed team in the history of sports?
QUESTIONS TO DOMINIQUE HAWKINS:
It’s the first time you all have played a team twice in the season. Is there anything special about that that the coaches have told you?
Is there any danger in overlooking a team that you already beat pretty handily once this year?
How do you think your game is coming along with the playing time you’re getting right now?
What have the coaches told you about why your minutes kind of decreased there?
Mississippi State was the game where you played a lot and they kept leaving you open and you passed up a few shots that kind of developed some conversation by the fans… If that happens again, are you going to take those shots?
Speaking on confidence, going on the road again–are you guys more confident now then where you were before? You won at Missouri–talk about going into the next two games.
What have you done to help your confidence?
QUESTIONS TO JARROD POLSON:
There’s been a lot of talk about you all being over analyzed. Do you feel like you all are over analyzed?
Do you laugh when you hear stuff like that about being over analyzed and it becomes such a big topic as you’re used to topics around here?
Does the criticism ever bother you guys?
Jarrod, as a guy who has been around, is there anything different about this game–where you play a team for the second time in a season?
is there any danger with the young players overlooking a team they beat pretty handily already?
How much throughout the season do you all look at the SEC standings?
Is that not your all’s main goal to win the SEC? I’m mean, I’m sure it’s no the main goal, but where does it rank in the main goals to do this season?
