The great folks at Kentucky Wildcats TV are back again with their pre-game videos. Watch below as Coach Cal, Julius Randle, and Willie Cauley-Stein talk about the upcoming game in Baton Rouge, LA against Louisiana State. I’ve written up a rough transcript of the questions the media asked the coach and players, which you can find them below each video.
QUESTIONS TO COACH CAL:
By the way, Cal, did you see the captions to that picture?
Worried about this weather [down in Louisiana]?
Julius said they’re finally starting to enjoy the grind a little bit more. Do you see that?
Cal, James only has two free throws in the last three games. Is he settling for too many jump shots?
A guy like Jordan Mickey, a long/lengthy type of a guy, does he present some problems?
Willie compared those guys to Tennessee’s front court–sort of bullies–he struggled against Tennessee’s bigs…
When Willie says… you know, I say, “How do you counter that when you’ve struggled against guys of that size?” He says pride. Do you see that coming out of him?
You sound like a guy, though, that is watching his team figure it out.
As a coach, how can you help a young team with mental discipline? Is that drills? Is that talking them? Showing them video? What types of things…?
Does it take more mental discipline playing on the road in a tough environment?
QUESTIONS TO JULIUS RANDLE:
Julius, how much better are you now passing out of traps than you were when the season started, and how much have you worked on that?
Julius, what’s different about it? Obviously the guys who double you are bigger and longer, but what else is different?
Saturday was the best we’ve seen of you all clicking at one time. How difficult is this team to defend when all of you click?
How much have you played against those young guys at LSU? Have you played against them much?
Does it surprise you at all to see how good of a year Mickey is having? He’s been really the better of the two freshman there. Not as heralded, but he’s had a really good season so far.
Do you like playing on the road, Julius? Why?
How much of the season has been fun, and how much has it been a grind?
QUESTIONS TO WILLIE CAULEY-STEIN:
Willie, Saturday was the closest we’ve seen to everybody clicking at one time. How much more difficult is this group to defend when you are all playing well?
What sort of challenge do you think LSU’s big guys are for you guys? What sense of that do you have?
People like Coach Cal say that’s not the kind of style you like to go against.
How do you find a way, though, against the size and sort of bullying mentality like that for you personally?
Has that pride factor kicked in for you? We’ve talked about your slump and people talking about you being in a slump… Does that pride thing sort of kick in?
What about Jordan Mickey playing against the leading shot blocker in the conference right now. Is pride for you wanting to show you’re one of the best defensive guys–does that come into it?
