The UK Athletics YouTube folks at Kentucky Wildcats TV are back yet again with post game videos of the Ole Miss game. First up are UK highlights of the game synced up to the Tom Leach radio broadcast. Next is Coach Cal’s press conference, followed lastly by player interviews featuring Aaron Harrison, Alex Poythress, and Willie Cauley-Stein. Like usual, I have written up a rough transcript of the questions the media asked the coach and players below their respective videos.
QUESTIONS TO COACH CAL:
Cal, they got off to a pretty good shooting start–I think they were 10 of 19 and from then on… pretty rough night. What did you guys do well defensively?
Cal, did you see this coming from Willie? Did he have a different kind of approach tonight?
Do you think that stuff [over analyzing by the fans and media] has affected them [the UK players]?
John, is Willie’s struggle a blessing in the long run because it enabled Dakari a chance to develop, and you’ll have both?
What made the difference with Julius?
Cal, the great amplification of this program… How much of it is the media’s fault?
John, can you talk about the play of Andrew tonight? Did you see more positive steps…?
Does he [Andrew Harrison] like that coaching from you?
John, how is your son doing [rehabbing his torn ACL], and in addition to that, you’ve coached players who have been injured before… but has it changed your perspective now that you’re kind of living this day-to-day?
With the way Alex is playing–his intensity and his energy–how much is that rubbing off on other guys right now?
QUESTIONS TO AARON HARRISON:
How tough is it to ignore that [the media/fans over analyzing the team and individual players] cause it’s everywhere? You’re probably bombarded with it…
Aaron, why do you think that is why you guys are so over analyzed?
Can you talk about Willie’s game? Did you guys expect to see what you saw tonight?
What brought that about do you think? What brought Willie out of the slump?
Cal said he told you he might start Alex at Missouri and he thought that got you going a little bit. Did that get you fired up a little bit?
QUESTIONS TO ALEX POYTHRESS:
One of the things Cal just talked about was how you guys are just ridiculously over analyzed, and how it’s part of playing here–if you lose, it’s the worst loss, you know, and guys get rated high and if you have a bad game then you stink… and that kind of thing. Willie just said as a freshman it bothered him, but it doesn’t bother him now. Did it bother you when you first got here with how crazy it is?
Can you give an example of a time where it bothered you?
But there wasn’t a moment where before a game that really stood out to you?
How big is it when Willie Cauley-Stein and Dakari are back there blocking shots? How much easier is it on defense?
QUESTIONS TO WILLIE CAULEY-STEIN:
Had to be frustrating out of Missouri with what happened–you getting into foul trouble. What does this game do for you? What does it give you?
What is it like guarding a guy that is that much shorter than you?
I think Andrew tweeted right after the game that you’re the best center in the country when you want to be. What does it mean to you to hear that?
Is it as simple though as just wanting to be that [the best center in the country]? I mean, it seems like it would be more difficult than just that?
What did you think of the new intro video with all the old players and stuff?
