KYWildcatsTV on YouTube are back with the pre-game videos for tomorrow’s Kentucky vs. Tennessee match-up in Rupp Arena at noon (Eastern). First up is the press conference with Coach Cal, where the media asked him several questions about the Arkansas game–and not so much about the upcoming Tennessee game. The second video shows the media interviewing Alex Poythress and Marcuss Lee to get their thoughts on the Arkansas and Tennessee games. Below each video you’ll find a rough transcript I have typed up of all the questions the media asked the coach and players. Watch the videos to hear their answers.
QUESTIONS TO JOHN CALIPARI:
How has the team been since the loss?
Are you going to shake up your starting lineup?
Was that play at the end of the game–the offensive rebound… [cut off by Coach Cal]
Besides the conditioning thing, what’s different about him [Alex Poythress] defensively, cause you can see he’s awfully good when he’s on the floor?
You said a few times you needed Marcus in the game more–what did you think he gave you?
Was something going on with Willie in that game? You talked about [the other day] him being sort of a non-factor. He seemed a little out of it…
QUESTIONS TO ALEX POYTHRESS:
You’ve obviously gotta be really excited about how you’ve been playing.
So what is the change in you, because it’s pretty obvious… but how do you look at it?
Cal talks about being in better shape is a big deal. Do you feel that?
Does starting or not starting matter to you?
Are you running on the treadmill now, which you weren’t doing last year? I’m just trying to figure out the difference.
Do you feel like you’ve gotten comfortable in that role coming off the bench? Do you like it–do you like to watch the game for a minute and sort of get a feel for it?
Alex it looks like, I think statistically, you guys are getting better defensively, running down the floor… Are you better defensively then you were a year ago, and how?
How did you get to that offensive rebound at the end of the game? That was one of the more impressive offensive rebounds I think we’ve seen.
Is that the kind of play [the offensive rebound] you might not have made a few months ago?
For those of you that were on the team last year, is the way the game went down in Knoxville serve as any extra motivation?
I know that game in Knoxville last year was one that sort of sticks with Willie, and it was the first time he was put into that starting role when Nerlens was gone, and not a great day for him. Is this one he’s talked about?
Where is this team mentally? How has everyone handled–cause that was a crazy way to lose a game on a putback dunk.
QUESTIONS TO MARCUS LEE:
What did it look like to you [the boxing out elbow to the face play], if you saw the replay?
What did that do to your rhythm? I think there were like 6 or 8 free throws in a row there without any time coming off the clock.
How do you sum up your freshman season so far?
Is it easier or tough not playing a lot?
Is it frustrating [the lack of playing time]?
Do you feel yourself putting any extra pressure on yourself when you go into a game to make a splash so you will hopefully stay out there longer?
We haven’t talked to you since Dominique’s helmet dunk came out. What did that play look like from your perspective?
Too late to do anything [stopping Dominique’s dunk] at that point, right?
What’s the one thing you’ve learned just being here so far this year?
So you don’t worry anymore [about missed shots, blockouts, etc.]?
